Marine Power

Scale and rust form on the surface during rolling, transportation, and storage.Anti-rust primer or oil contamination from the manufacturing process affects subsequent coating

Construction Machinery

Long-term exposure to heavy loads, impact, and alternating stresses in harsh environments such as mines and construction sites. Welded areas contain residual tensile stress and stress concentrations, which serve as initiation points for fatigue cracks. Surface rust and scale compromise coating adhesion, leading to corrosion protection failure.

Aerospace

Landing gear endures massive impact loads during touchdown and alternating stresses during taxiing. It is a safety-critical component — failure would have catastrophic consequences. Prolonged exposure to moisture, salt spray, gravel, and other harsh environments poses a corrosion fatigue risk. Surface scratches or minor defects can easily propagate into fatigue cracks under alternating loads.

Energy

Oil pipes are subjected to high pressure and corrosive media (H₂S, CO₂, saline water) over long-term service. Both inner and outer walls face the risk of general corrosion, pitting, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC). Pipe threads are areas of stress concentration and corrosion sensitivity; seal failure can lead to leakage incidents. Surface damage from impacts during transportation and installation may create hidden crack initiation sites.

Automotive

The crankshaft is the most complexly loaded component in an engine, subjected to alternating bending stress, torsional stress, and impact loads. The fillet radii between journals and crank arms are stress concentration zones and high-risk areas for fatigue crack initiation.

Flexspline

Gear shafts are subjected to combined torque transmission, bending stress, and impact loads during operation. Keyways, steps, splines, and similar features on the shaft create severe stress concentrations and serve as initiation sites for fatigue cracks. Surface wear and fretting corrosion lead to reduced transmission accuracy and increased vibration. Shaft fracture can trigger cascading damage throughout the entire transmission system.
